Don't throw it out. FIX IT!
From time to time I'm given broken electronics to repair, or if I'm really bored I'll purchase broken stuff so I have something to do. Each time something comes along I'll now be sharing my challenges with you! Hopefully you will learn something or if nothing else, get to see what's inside stuff. This is not my day job. Please keep in mind some electronics can seriously injure or kill you. I am not responsible for anything that happens to you should you attempt anything you see here.

Yamaha RX-797 amplifier repair part 2
@19:00 I have successfully soldered thermal fuses many times, just be quick, get the wire hot first, and hold between the join and the fuse with something to heat sink it.
Good job. It might have just had a voltage surge through the house. We use our air frier all the time. Great style of cooker.
Great review! Did you ever tried the USB-C ?
Hi. do you have the value of the capacitor?
The world's most fancy wrist watch! 😁😎
All this style and still can't attract the ladies 😆
@@JonnyFix 🤣
On crusty TH connections I usually remove as much of the old solder as possible, then use fresh solder to make whole new joints.
Definitely the best way. It is a 2014 unit, surely it'll go 11 years now with a premium blend :)
I wonder if that is zero lead solder, horrible stuff
Yep. Been used in industry for years now.
Good job, it doesn't look very water proof to me
I doubt these are meant for outdoor use
@@JonnyFix Oh ok I thought it was one of the units constantly advertised on TV, looks very similar.
Interesting, Ive always wanted to have a look at one of those, they say the are water proof so interesting to see how good these really are if left outside. I too was told about the effects of cutting leads affecting the components, I believe that came from Nasa but like you Ive never had any problems but Ive never worked on spaceships either. Im a subscriber now :) Where are you in NZ, Im in Wellington, Silverstream actually.
I guess if you're floating through space you want to be sure the one time they cut that diode leg isn't gonna bite you in the butt! Sunny (usually) Manawatu.
I would be inclined to wire up a silent 120mm fan inside, that runs around 9v to keep the noise down and constantly cool the components, Interestingly you can pick this PS up for $ 111 delivered now
Good idea. Always some sale going on.
The Battery cable has a connector mid-way between where it enters the chassis. You have to un-wrap the black foam at the thickest part of the battery cable, and underneath are white 5-Pin connectors that are easily UN-plugged. Then you can be remove the battery. Save the foam and re wrap the connector when you re-install it so that it doesn't rattle to the BASS!
Must have been shorting to the earthed casing, have to wonder if the house it was used in has an electrical issue where the earth leakage isn't working or maybe not even present due to age pre-dating the use of RCD's.
Yeah likely old house/workshop. I presume new builds must require RCD breakers now? Or maybe only under certain circumstances like commercial builds.
@1:00 I would be using a flat blade screwdriver for that, being as it requires more force than the spudger can manage.
The power supply looked like a standard capacitive dropper. The large X2 film caps often fail (low capacitance) which causes no or erratic operation.
Momentary switch isn’t soldered at all on that side
Yeah pretty shoddy all round
@@JonnyFix have you seen these being sold on TV, using a biased test method to compare to a gas heater, using a strong air flow from a fan… totally skewed marketing.
I don't watch tv these days. That's pretty scammy. These are great to sit in front of but I can't imagine they'd heat a room much.
@@JonnyFix likewise, I don’t watch much, mostly just the news (most of which comes from Reddit anyway), and maybe some mini series or something “on demand” with the wife.
You could get a MELF zener assortment, I picked one up a while ago for this kind of situation, used them a few times.
Shame - you didn't check the gigantic orange glowing resistor on the front, mind your fingers! Stay warm.
As a child I saw a 5 watt resistor glowing in a TV. I thought it was neat. Pretty sure there was a fault though, no idea what.
We have the same issue . Thank you !!
Great job buddy John did you have to program that chip in anyway. Many thanks Tom
You don't need to program it
@JonnyFix thank you John 🙏
Thanks Jonny and thank everyone for your comments. I have the same issue with my 2013 Hilux.... Will give this a bash this week...
Can I have it replaced??
I am amazed! never seen a "conductive" dust let alone dark!! Nice work!
Do you repair for the public?
Not at the moment sorry
Hey mate I bought cluster from eBay as can fg mk2 done 89k only buy cluster I bought its was from same model and year but has over 200k. Any way to fix the odo reading. And if I directly put new one which I bought without correction any kms. Do I need to get any calibration.l to make working with my car ??
I don't think you need to calibrate. Plug in new one and make sure key fob works and engine starts. You will probably have to swap the big square IC in the middle as it holds all the info (I couldn't see an eeprom but if there is just swap that). Honestly might be easier to fix your old one if you're not skilled at soldering such ICs
Guess who just purchased some tin snips....
Handy thing to have for sure!
@10:40 they look familiar...
yay a boring video about a radio scanner.
Maybe from vaping. That vape juice is nasty stuff! Great job!
Thanks mate! Vape juice and scented oil burners. I once had a PC motherboard that would only run if you set bios to a lower CPU clock speed. Was covered in oil residue.
MAAAAAAATTEEEEEE!!!!!!!!! You're a dead-set champion.... Just fault-found following your instructions and lo and behold it was the same dioide... Repaired, and I now have my Acoustimass back online!!! Very, very much appreciated bud. 😍
Nice. What’d you use to clean?
Vacuum and paint brush. Keep the nozzle close and the brush is great for getting around and under things
Reminds me of ruclips.net/video/dftkoD7LG0A/видео.html, where the gunk used to glue down components turned conductive...
Yeah I've had plenty of that in the past to
This was an episode of CSI: Jonny Fix. The victim PS5. The killer - Mary Jane. Case Solved.
*puts on dark glasses* - YEEEEAAAAHHHH!!!!!
May have been effecting a voltage divider on the sense side for feedback? Certainly an interesting one.
That was my theory to
Thanks for the video. It would be helpful to say which side of the speaker the motherboard is on. Also, I got mad and just ripped my side panels off. At this point it shouldn't take me an hour to try and turn it when it doesn't want to turn, and everyone else does it like its a baby toy. You'd think they would have some type of ring to help open the side panels. I butchered mine with pliers and a flathead.
Nice. Yeah these ones were quite stuck on as well. I'd like to get another one to have a second go at.
Never buying Bose again. This just happened to me
Can you run spooky 2 software on it mate?
I don't know, never heard of it. Also, not interested in trying. The thing works and risking bricking it in attempt to run other firmware isn't an option as I need it to work.
@Jonny Fix do you think there would be any issues if I was to swap the speedo facia with LCD off another cluster onto my FG but keep my original board reason being for aesthetic purposes
I'd think that would be ok if the LCD is same and lines up with the board. Make sure the printing for the speed and rpm is the same e.g. if one is 0-180 and the other is 0-240 then it'll be out.
DIOS los bendiga
Mine also same problem, my one was broken, I am onboard a ship and my colleague Electrical engineer said that he can’t soldering that small piece. Do u have any suggestions how to find the power charging board for replacement ?
Maybe ebay unless you can find a marshall agent who is able to order direct from marshall.... if they are willing to supply. Sadly it's very proprietary
Can you provide the search criteria you used to find the usbc part
Marshall Emberton USB Port, because the emberton uses the same one but nobody was showing it for the middleton. Sadly I cannot find a listing for them right now.
Nice. Do try again.
There is a difference between the colons and the decimal point in the Frequency parametric value; you can't treat the colons as if they are decimal points! The colons are just markers every three orders of magnitude. You had been setting the signal generator outputs to very low voltages; perhaps the one you connected to the frequency counter was set too low to register? The included BNC-to-BNC cable(s) is pretty much crap, and very short. When I used some decent BNC cables on mine, most of the ringing and other distortions on the square wave signal became all but negligible on the 'scope. The Square wave is, by definition, a 50% duty cycle, not adjustable by the user. By default, the rectangle wave is set to 50%, so it looks the same as a square wave; try adjusting the duty cycle to see a difference. The trapezoid wave also needs adjustment of other parameters in order to be distinguished from a square wave.
Cheers mate, some good info there!
Can I send my amp to you to fix
My ultrasonic cleaner mechine run very short time and auto off by itselft without compleate tusk which electronics parts I should change?
This bloke must do it for a living..he's taking the needlessly long method.. Just undo the 2 screws on the back and white cover comes off.
Hi! I hope you respond. On the first test, where we use the voltmeter on the power line and 5v , i only get 5 volts when i tap on the power button. What does it mean? Have i done something wrong? Pls, i don't want to trash this great console. Bye
If you mean the power enable signal at 6:30 then that's normal and you need to check if the yellow wire (better to check at the motherboard connector rather than break open the power adapter) is reading 12V when you tap power button. If yes you have a motherboard fault to find. If no you probably need a new power adapter. If you know anyone else with one of these try their adapter.
@@JonnyFix thank you! But the capacitor o my board was burned to. I just took it and now is perfectly functioning. Thank you for everithing!
